Diagonal Lines

There's enjoyment to be had in thinking about the future, daydreaming if you will. A gentle colleague of mine is always pointing out the ways that I, that all of us, "escape" living in the moment. Reading is about escaping, into the mind of another. Time to appreciate this moment right now.

To do so, I'm going to "look sideways" as advised. My eye is drawn to the straight lines, the outline of this laptop, the edge of the doorway, the panes of the window.

There's probably something psychological about why the eye is drawn to the lines on the edge of images but I'm not going to do any research on that right now.

Instead I'm going to direct you to the latest post at Michael Yon's new site. Click through the images and tell me you don't notice:

- the straight black line of the shadow in the white of the dusty street, the curbs, the telephone lines and poles, the metallic grille, even the pockets clipped to a belt - the lines make a frame for the stories contained in each image.

Maybe one of those photos will be nominated for a Pulitzer.

According to "Cognitive Psychology", personal philosophy plays a role in creativity and includes intrinsic motivators like sheer enjoyment of the creative process. Or the desire to document the moment is so compelling that the artist just couldn't help himself. That's my take on it.
